Dog-friendly beaches in Galicia

COVID-19 UPDATE:

Due to the exceptional situation with Covid-19, many of the dog beaches in this blog may not be operational this summer 2020 due to capacity modifications.

For greater safety, we recommend that you contact the local Tourism Office before visiting their beaches.

The holidays are here and you want to take your dog to enjoy the beach, but do you really know if dogs are allowed on all beaches?

Here are the dog-friendly beaches in Galicia, updated for 2020.

Grab your dog, your towel, and head to the beach!

There's nothing better than a vacation with your dog... fortunately, nowadays we have many dog-friendly beaches in Spain where you can enjoy with them. The feeling of dogs stepping on the sand and playing with the waves is indescribable.

You'll love watching them have a blast!

In previous posts, we made a list of the best dog beaches in Spain, but some municipalities have decided to cancel some beaches. That's why this time we've decided to organize them by Autonomous Communities, and we've put together a selection of beaches to go with your dog, updated for 2020.

Dog-friendly beaches in Pontevedra:

O Espiño and O Portiño beaches, San Vicente de O Grove

75-meter beach with fine white sand. Ideal for your dog to run and play with the waves.

- Cesantes and Chapela beach, Redondela

A dog-friendly beach that can only be accessed at low tide. A 150-meter long beach of fine sand, great for long walks with your dog. It is considered one of the best beaches in Galicia.

A Cunchiña beach, Cangas

It is a small beach that the town hall has enabled as a dog-friendly beach. It is located next to the old Massó canning factory and near the Port of Cangas. It is 110 meters long, composed of fine white sand and rocks. Its waters are calm and clean, though somewhat cold. Medium/high occupancy rate. Its access by car is complicated, so it's better to park at Salgueiro Beach and walk. This beach has no services of any kind.

- O Castelete beach, in Villagarcia de Arosa, a small beach by the road, with pebbles and rocks, not highly recommended.

- A Foz and A Calzoa beaches, the best of the two is Foz, next to Vigo, after Samil, on the other side of the Lagares estuary. On this beach, it's rare to see people without a dog. Always crowded, Foz is better, as it has fine sand, while A Calzoa has rocks.

Dog-friendly beaches in A Coruña

- Arenal beach in A Pobra do Caramiñal. At the end of this beautiful and well-maintained beach, the dog-friendly area extends for 300 meters. Being a shellfish farming area, we might have some mishaps with sharp mollusc shells. Be especially careful with your dog's paw pads, and if it gets cut, apply Paw Care, you'll find it in the cosmetics section of our website: it protects, repairs and hydrates your dog's paw pads.

Ares beach, in Ares. The area enabled as a dog beach is in the cove, between the Rowing Club and the Yacht Club. It is a central and spacious beach, with good access, where you can enjoy with your dog.

Dog-friendly beaches in Lugo:

-Corveira Beach: After Lóngara beach, in Barreiros, a difficult-to-access beach full of rocks, made up of fine sand and rocks.

As always, we remind you of the basic rules for being a responsible owner, regulations for taking your dog to the beach:

    • control your dog at all times
    • carry a bottle of water to keep your dog hydrated
    • try not to disturb other users
    • pick up all your dog's waste
    • be up to date on vaccinations and carry the health record
    • if your dog is included in the list of potentially dangerous dog breeds, you must keep it leashed and muzzled

As you can see, the selection of dog-friendly beaches in Spain is very extensive. We hope that all users will take care of them so that municipalities grant us more and more spaces and beaches to go with dogs.

Hopefully, you can take your dog on vacation to one of these dog-friendly beaches in Galicia.

See you in the next post!
