What should I use for my dog, a collar or a harness?
Dog Collar or Harness
There are several options on the market for walking our dog, and often the debate arises as to which of the two is better: a dog collar or a dog harness. We can opt for the classic collar, but harnesses are also available that adapt to all types of sizes. In this post, we review their advantages and disadvantages, as well as some tips for purchasing and fitting them.

Dog Collar: Advantages and Disadvantages
The dog collar has been the most used option until recently. It is a strap that is fastened around the dog's neck and has a leash attachment.
The collar is especially suitable for dogs that are used to walking, do not pull, and can maintain a steady pace. The collar does not affect leg mobility, so the dog has complete freedom of movement.
However, the dog collar has its detractors because it is attached to the neck, a particularly sensitive area that houses all kinds of essential bones and muscles. In case of a sudden pull, this area can be affected.

Dog Harnesses and Their Use
Dog harnesses are especially recommended for dogs that are not used to calm walks, tend to pull, or change their pace. For those restless dogs that investigate everything, a harness is better to prevent injuries from pulling.
The harness attaches to the leash on the dog's upper back, preventing the force of the pull from resting on the neck, which is the most delicate part of a dog.
The main disadvantage is that if low-quality harnesses are used, chafing and wounds can occur in the areas that are in contact with the harness.

Tips for Buying Dog Collars and Harnesses
∙The material in contact with the body should be soft; some have neoprene, fleece, or padded areas, especially in the case of harnesses.
∙Neither the harness nor the collar should compromise the movement of the neck, legs, or torso.
∙The leash attachment ring must be secure, and it is best to check that no fastening system contains small parts.
