Dog cinemas, an increasingly common trend in Spain

And why not a movie theater for dogs?

You already take your dog to bars, to the hairdresser, shopping, to trendy restaurants… but have you ever thought about going to a dog cinema?

Regarding the second part of the movie The Secret Life of Pets 2, many people have considered being able to go see this movie at the cinema accompanied by their pet, as they did with the first edition of the movie. After the first pilot experience, and seeing the great reception it had, no one imagined that the dog cinema would work so well.

In other countries around the world, such as the USA and the United Kingdom, these dog-friendly cinema sessions have been very popular for many years, as long as the dogs are well-behaved and know how to act properly, they can go to the cinema with their owners.

Dog cinemas: a new dog-friendly space

The filmography with dogs as pets is very extensive and many films with pets as main actors are released every year, a sign that pets increasingly play a leading role in our lives.

Many businesses have emerged around them: bars and restaurants for dogs, hotels, shops, bookstores, walkers, dog parks, swimming pools and dog beaches … and the latest addition has been dog-friendly cinemas.

In many cities, when a film with dogs is released, they hold a special dog cinema screening, and on that day, they invite people to bring their pet, as another member of the family.

Today, this is already a reality in some cities. There are already dog cinemas in Madrid, dog cinemas in Barcelona… Many cultural spaces have become dog-friendly, and we can increasingly enter more places with our best 4-legged friends, but the cinema was still banned. If this experience proves productive, they will surely try to enable a permanent room. In Spain, we still have a long way to go in the dog-friendly field.

Rules for dog cinemas

Most of these dog cinemas have their rules: while in some they have to stay on the floor, in others they can get on the seats with a protective blanket, and they even give them a bag with treats and popcorn for dogs.

In other cinemas, the two seats next to you are free, so your dog can feel more comfortable and sit wherever they prefer. In many cinemas, they register at the entrance to place dogs by size and weight, and they even have trainers so that the session runs normally, with perhaps an occasional bark due to the excitement of seeing their companions on the big screen.

Anyway, everyone enjoys the dog cinema session and wants to repeat the experience.

Where to find a dog cinema?

Formerly, they could be taken to summer cinema sessions and drive-in cinemas in Gijón, Valencia, and Alicante throughout the year.

In Madrid, the pioneering cinemas were Cinesa. Now, at Autocine Madrid Race, you can go all year round, and they have two modalities: in the front part with hammocks, or in the comfort of your own car.

Many times, when you have a dog, you don't want to have to choose between leaving it alone at home or taking it out. The initiative of dog cinemas has not been liked by many people; as in everything, there are also detractors of this measure. Some think it is humanizing animals too much, and others, on the other hand, think the idea is great. And that's even though it's not generalized to all cinemas and all sessions.

From @tqel we want to thank the effort for this magnificent initiative and we hope that little by little, more cinemas will join in having dog cinema rooms.

If you feel like having a good time in the company of your best friend, don't hesitate and take them to the cinema.
